Black-and-white portrait of Lidya Cota

I’m a computer scientist. I’ve led artificial intelligence and data projects, and I’ve designed and run a digital business from start to finish.

Mexico City

About

I’m a computer scientist trained at Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). I did graduate studies toward a Master of Science in Computer Science at the IPN’s Center for Computing Research, where I focused on knowledge representation and natural semantic networks.

For six years I led the innovation area of a software development company. I set the technical approach for each solution and coordinated the development teams; together we built data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence prototypes for clients in the United States and Mexico.

Before that, starting in 2002, I worked in technical support, on Unix servers and in SAP programming for finance and tax.

Since 2019 I’ve been developing my own digital projects. I built and published an iOS app, and I designed and have run the entire digital business of an online literature school: product, advertising, websites, analytics and student support.

Outside work, purely for the love of it, I make digital literature: web works where I bring in code, animation and music.

Skills

Artificial intelligence and data

Graduate training in knowledge representation, ontologies, natural semantic networks, expert systems and time series analysis. In industry I designed entity resolution solutions to detect duplicate records, social media sentiment analysis, recommender systems and the design of a neural-network solution, as well as business intelligence dashboards. I know the full life cycle of an AI solution: data extraction and cleaning, representation, modeling, training and validation.

Technology project and team leadership

I coordinated front-end, back-end, mobile and data teams across simultaneous projects: planning, priorities, tracking and deliverables. I researched and proposed technologies and architectures, presented solutions to clients and executives in Spanish and English, and took part in technical interviews and hiring.

Digital business and marketing

I designed and ran a complete sales funnel: demand research, course catalog, creative and copy, Meta campaigns (Facebook and Instagram), landing pages, international payments, delivery and customer support. I measured results with the Meta pixel, Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, and moved the business from one-off launches to a subscription model. At Poescrítika this added up to more than 35 course launches and more than 800 participants from over 40 countries. I use generative AI tools for research, writing, images, audio and web development.

Development and systems

I single-handedly built a native iPhone and iPad app in Swift and published it on the App Store. I developed ABAP programs in SAP for finance and tax departments. I administered Unix servers, batch processes and development, testing and production environments. I’ve programmed in Python, PHP, JavaScript and SQL. All of that before vibe coding (though these days I love it!). It’s what I now use to build my websites.

Experience

Technology

2013–2019

Innomius Technologies

Head of the innovation area (contract title: Data Scientist). I set the technical approach and led proofs of concept and prototypes in data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence for clients in the United States and Mexico, in travel and aviation, consumer goods, telecommunications and technology. I coordinated several development teams, proposed architectures and took part in hiring.

2007–2009

BrainUp Systems

SAP ABAP consultant and developer for the finance and tax module, for manufacturing and pharmaceutical companies.

2006–2007

BrainUp Systems

Level 2 Unix server support for a multinational technology company, on a team with colleagues in the United States, Brazil and India.

2002–2003

Pemex

Mandatory social service (a Mexican graduation requirement) and a paid IT support internship at Mexico’s state oil company.

Entrepreneurship

Since 2023

Poescrítika, online literature school

Co-founder and director, with Abraham Truxillo. I designed and have run the school’s digital business: course catalog, advertising campaigns, websites on its own domain, analytics, international payments and personal support for participants. Today the school offers the Poescrítika Library, its subscription catalog of video courses in Spanish.

2019–2023

Independent projects

I conceived, coded in Swift and published Sun Namaskar, an iPhone and iPad app, on the App Store. It is no longer available.

Education

Academic background

1998–2002

Bachelor’s degree in Informatics

UPIICSA, IPN.

1995–1998

Technical diploma in Marketing

CECyT 14 “Luis Enrique Erro”, IPN.

Research

At the CIC I was part of the Parallel and Distributed Computing Laboratory, led by Dr. Jesús Guillermo Figueroa Nazuno. My research focused on natural semantic networks applied to computing: I developed techniques for the quantitative semantic comparison of networks from groups and from individuals, and a web system that elicits those networks through surveys, computes their indicators and displays them as graphs.

Natural semantic networks capture, from empirical data, meaning as people actually organize it. That perspective remains relevant in today’s computational semantics, which works with meaning representation, semantic similarity and knowledge graphs.

I also worked on time series analysis and ontologies.

Certifications

  • SAP ABAP development (2009).
  • English teaching certificate, Harmon Hall, recognized by Mexico’s Ministry of Education (SEP).

Languages

  • Spanish: native.
  • English: advanced (C2, IELTS).

Digital literature

I make web works where code, animation and music accompany poetry. I sign them with my author identifier, ORCID 0009-0003-1493-4197. The texts are in Spanish.

Works

Alfonsina: Trap y poesía

2026. Authorship, AI-generated music and website.

Eight trap, reggaeton and dembow tracks based on El dulce daño (1918), by Alfonsina Storni.
